Top 10 Cities For Electric Vehicles In The US Shown In New Infographic
What are the top cities in the US for electric vehicles (EVs)?
A good question. As determined by the charging station infrastructure company ChargePoint — while taking into account EVs on the road, charging infrastructure (ChargePoint’s), and population differences — the top “cities” are: the San Francisco Bay Area, LA, Seattle, San Diego, and Honolulu.
Not really the most surprising choices — the West Coast after all has been faster to embrace EVs (in most cases) than the East. But changes have been occurring in that regard. Atlanta, Georgia, even managed to crack the top 10 for the first time — taking the number 8 spot. Not all that surprising, though, given incentives in Atlanta and other EV news from the city. As you can see in the infographic above, Denver (Colorado), Detroit (Michigan), and Austin (Texas) all made appearances on the list as well. Austin is a bit of a no-brainer, but Detroit and Denver are both certainly notable, and good signs of broad EV growth. What I want to know, though, is: how much longer until New York finally gets its act together?
ChargePoint’s CEO Pasquale Romano commented: “Although the West Coast continues to lead the nation in EV friendliness, the fact that cities like Atlanta and Denver broke into the top 10 demonstrates that this is not regional trend, but that our nation is quickly transitioning from gas-powered cars to EVs. In cities across the country, it’s becoming easier than ever to drive an EV — and that’s good news for our industry and for our environment.”
Worth noting is that last year’s list saw DC and Boston take the #9 and #10 spots, respectively. Both of which have, obviously, fallen off the list. Perhaps they can turn things around in 2015.
