BYD Reaches 15 Million Plugin Vehicles In Crazy Time
In November 2024, BYD reached cumulative production of 10 million plugin vehicles (or “new energy vehicles” as they are called in China). Just 13 months later, in December 2025, the company reached 15 million.
That’s stunning growth. From 10 million cumulative vehicles produced to 15 million in just over a year?
The Denza N8L was the 15 millionth vehicle produced. The large, 6-seat, plugin hybrid SUV has a starting price of RMB 299,800 ($42,655).
BYD has sold over 4 million vehicles this year, as it did last year. It won’t break the 5 million vehicle marker this year, but perhaps in 2026?
BYD’s first plugin vehicle model was sold in December 2008, 17 years ago, and the company reached 1 million cumulative plugin vehicles produced just in May of 2021. So, it took 13 years to go from one vehicle to one million, and it took another 4 years to go from one million to 15 million!
Here are a couple more stunning stats on BYD: it now employs more than 900,000 people, and more than 110,000 of them are specifically focused on R&D, ensuring the company continues to innovate rapidly and compete well on the free market.
