GM Reveals More Cadillac Lyriq Specs

Cadillac has begun series production of the Lyriq, its first battery-electric offering. The Debut Edition lists for $59,990 and comes with a single rear motor making 340 hp and 325 pound-feet of torque. The first of those cars are expected to be delivered to their owners in June.

Cadillac took to Instagram recently to share a few previously unknown details about what comes next for the Lyriq. Before the end of this year, a dual motor all-wheel drive model will go into production and customers will be able to order one beginning May 19. That car will have 500 hp on tap, putting it into the same performance envelope as the the 480 hp Mustang Mach-E and the 516 hp BMW iX xDrive50 (one of the dumbest names in the history of automobiles).

Cadillac did not release any information about torque, but did say the dual motor Lyriq will be able to tow up to 3500 pounds. No towing capacity has ever been stated by the company for the single motor Debut Edition. Ford has just raised the towing capacity of the Mustang Mach-E to 2250 lb for European customers.

During the Instagram session, Cadillac also announced the EPA range of the single motor car will be 312 miles, which is up slightly from earlier estimates of around 300 miles. Range for the dual motor car has not been announced, but will probably be slightly less than the single motor version. No prices for the dual motor version of the car were announced.

According to Autoblog, it is assumed the single and dual motor cars will share a 100 kWh Ultium battery pack and 190 kW fast charging capability that can add 75 miles of range in 10 minutes. Using a 240 volt Level 2 charger adds about 50 miles of range for every hour the car is plugged in.

Cadillac says it has received more than 230,000 “expressions of interest” in the Lyriq. Autoblog points out that if only half of those are converted into purchases, Lyriq sales would almost match Cadillac’s total US sales for 2021. Even at a 10% conversion rate would mean a 20% sales increase for GM’s premium brand. There will be other models and trim packages announced later this year for delivery in 2023, Autoblog reports.
