Titillating Tesla Chat #3: Tesla Model 3 Sales, Model 3 Demand, & EV Revolution
In this week’s Titillating Tesla Chat episode, Tomek, Jacek, and I talked sales, sales, sales. As much as we report about it and as much as it has been long planned and projected, it is mind-blowing that Tesla has gone from essentially no sales a decade ago to production and sale of approximately 20,000 cars a month today.
The really shocking sales finding this week is that Tesla’s USA sales may actually pass up BMW USA sales this month or next. Seriously, just sit and think on that for a minute.
Another fun topic we fell into concerned a discussion Tomek had with a Jaguar salesperson. The sales guy apparently thought poorly of Tesla vehicles being iPhones on wheels. But that’s one big reason Tesla’s cars are so much better than the competition’s — they have sophisticated computer systems within them that lead to much better autonomous driving features, infotainment, and even drive quality.
One of the remaining “battles” for Tesla is winning over people attached to the Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes, or [fill in the blank] brand. However, that might just not be Tesla’s battle. The battle is for those brands to get serious about electrifying their fleet, because we need buyers of all tastes and styles. That said, the younger generations love Tesla, want Tesla, and don’t give a care about the more traditional brands. If we think demand for Tesla vehicles is high today, wait 20 or 30 years.
We also had a chat about the cars and classes the Model 3 actually competes in, how much monthly demand we’ll see for the car when production is fully ramped and steady, and how much of a result “the neighborhood effect” will have on people who don’t currently know a lot about Tesla or the Model 3.
And we talked about the evolution of EV ownership — or some versions of that — as well as brand loyalty. Check out the full video on YouTube or Facebook.
