Vivint Solar and ChargePoint are looking to level up the competition with the announcement of a fully integrated solar, electric vehicle charging, home battery, + intelligent energy management system to seamlessly integrate the various clean energy products today’s consumers are demanding. Mercedes-Benz is joining the party too.
The solution is comprised of a Vivint Solar rooftop photovoltaic solar system, a ChargePoint Home electric vehicle charger, the Mercedes-Benz Energy Storage Home Battery, and the Vivint Smart Home intelligent energy management solution, which serves as the brain of the family, helping them all play nicely together.
This new solution from Vivint Solar and ChargePoint truly levels up their offerings, making the combined
Vivint Solar has branded the combined offering “Fully Integrated Solar,” and that it is. “Homeowners who want to embrace clean energy can trust Vivint Solar to make their transition easy and simple by either purchasing the complete home solar solution or by buying the elements they need now with the option of adding others later. It is completely flexible and customizable,” says David Bywater, CEO of Vivint Solar.
The average American home uses just over 11 kWh/day, and charging one electric vehicle travelling the average commuting distance of 30 miles per day would draw only slightly less at around 9 kWh/day (depending on the model). It is easy to see how the transition to electric vehicles has the potential to kick many homeowners into a higher tier of electricity usage and drive bills through the roof. That scenario can cause short-term pain and frustration but also makes adding solar to the roof (or to the utility plan through a community choice electricity plan) an obvious alternative.
Buying a rooftop solar system up front cuts the utility out of the picture for the vast majority of usage, while a right-sized home battery energy storage unit with the right brains behind it can ensure that as much of that rooftop solar stays inside the four walls of the house, out of view of any incremental utility taxes or fees that might be applied to power that touches the grid. The Vivint Solar and ChargePoint Fully Integrated Solar solution has the potential to maximize the benefits provided by rooftop solar, home EV charging, and a home battery unit, either for the lowest total cost or even the lowest total emissions.
The complete home solar solution — or any subset of the complete solution — will initially be available in select markets in California. Here’s to hoping it succeeds and expands quickly to other markets! To learn more about the solution, head over to the Fully Integrated Solar™ from Vivint Solar page.
