DONG Energy Places Record 450 Megawatt Borkum Riffgrund Wind Order With Vestas

DONG Energy has placed a record order for 450 megawatts worth of 8 megawatt wind turbines with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind for the German Borkum Riffgrund 2 project.

Vestas announced earlier this month that it had received a record order for 450 megawatts (MW) worth of wind turbines, the largest ever for MHI Vestas Offshore Wind — the joint venture between Vestas Wind Systems A/S and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries LTD created back in 2014. The offshore wind turbine company will provide DONG Energy with 56 of its V164-8.0 MW wind turbines, which will come with a “five-year full-scope service contract with an availability guarantee.” MHI Vestas will optimize the turbines using MAX Power from the MVOW MAX Performance portfolio to increase the maximum output of the wind turbines to 8.3 MW.

DONG Energy announced its commitment to develop the 450 MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm, located in the North Sea off the coast of Germany, back in June of 2016. Expected to be completed and commissioned in the first half of 2019, Borkum Riffgrund 2 will generate enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of around 460,000 German households.
