The press release also revealed that Uber CEO Travis Kalanick was appointed to the council — which brings the total to 19 members, amongst which is GM CEO Mary Barra.
These 19 members will reportedly “be called upon to meet with the President frequently to share their specific experience and knowledge as the President implements his economic agenda.”
As noted in our earlier coverage about Mary Barra’s appointment to the forum, it will apparently be chaired by the CEO, Chairman, and Co-Founder of Blackstone, Stephen A Schwarzman.
The press release included this comment from Donald Trump: “America has the most innovative and vibrant companies in the world, and the pioneering CEOs joining this Forum today are at the top of their fields. My Administration is going to work together with the private sector to improve the business climate and make it attractive for firms to create new jobs across the United States from Silicon Valley to the heartland.”
The news was released previous to a meeting at Trump Tower between various tech industry execs, including Elon Musk and the President-Elect.
So, how to take all of this? Who knows? Not surprising, but not bad news either. It would probably be pretty interesting to hear Musk and Trump have a conversation.
