Evatran & Zhejiang VIE Bringing Wireless EV Charging To China
The new joint venture (JV) was formed with the intent of introducing Evatran’s wireless electric vehicle (EV) charging system to the Chinese market. And, more specifically, to integrate the technology into local manufacturers’ EV offerings.
The new JV has been dubbed Zhejiang VIE Evatran Electronic Technologies Company, and was supplied with an initial investment of $5 million.
The recent email states that, “the joint venture pairs Plugless products and inductive charging technology with the manufacturing experience and long-term OEM customer relationships of VIE, a leading manufacturer of automotive parts based in Zhejiang Province, China. The joint venture expects Plugless EV charging to be in series production and commercially available with a China-based OEM in 2017.”
The CEO of Evatran, Rebecca Hough, commented: “China is the fastest growing EV market in the world, and we see tremendous opportunities in bringing Plugless technology to the market. VIE is the perfect partner in this joint venture, working together toward another first with Plugless — series production of wireless EV charging.”
In related news, Evatran recently began taking reservations (in the US market) for the second-generation of Plugless wireless EV chargers — a 7.2 kilowatt (kW) systems for the Tesla Model S, and a 3.6 kW system for the 2016 + 2017 Chevy Volt model years. Full production is expected to begin by the fall.
