Greenlight Planet was one of the finalists in the 2016 Zayed Future Energy Prize (ZFEP) awards competition, which essentially makes it a global winner in my book. The discussions among the ZFEP jury as far as which small or medium-sized business deserved to win the SME prize must have been interesting, as any one of them had right to the award. I spoke with Greenlight Planet’s CEO and cofounder Anish Thakkar regarding this prize, how competitive it is, what Greenlight Planet aims to achieve, why they created a company rather than a nonprofit in order to bring solar to developing countries, and a bit more. Greenlight Planet is already in 40 countries, focusing on East and West Africa and South Asia. Have a watch:
