Two new renewable energy projects are now up for investment via the crowdfunding platform Abundance, according to recent reports.
The two projects — a wind project in South Gloucestershire via DistGen Hinton, and the extension of an existing program to put solar photovoltaic (PV) modules on households in the Northeast of the UK, via Ecossol — will now be available to those interested in investing, even if it’s only as much as £5.
The cofounder and joint managing director of Abundance, Bruce Davis, commented that the setup allows those interested to be sure that their money is being invested ethically:
Our recent research confirms that the vast majority of people in Britain, 70% in fact, want to know where their money is invested and they want it to be invested ethically, where they will get a good return but not through hurting others or the planet.
We are excited to now be able to offer more than £4 million of ideal, diverse investment solutions for these people who care what their money is being used for.
With regard to the wind project up for investment, DistGen Hinton is reportedly looking to raise up to £700,000 for the single wind turbine that the project will be composed of. The wind turbine in question will generate up to 500 kilowatts (kW) of electricity. Ecossol is reportedly looking to raise up to £1.9 million in order to support its solar PV deployment program.
The rate of return on the offerings via Abundance are 8–9.1% for the DistGen project; and 7% for the Ecossol program.
