In January, when the weather is not too hot, in coordination with Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, an event called “The Festival” is held in Masdar City. My stay in Abu Dhabi this year was extended a little bit so that I could attend one day of The Festival*. Below is a video of my stroll through the event, followed by some extra commentary.
Strolling around the city, the most enjoyable thing was watching the kids playing. However, it was also nice to enjoy the cooler climate there, thanks to the wonderful design aimed at making the harsh outdoors more livable. And it was nice to enjoy the beautiful architecture of the city combined with local green and crafty vendors.
I imagine that once the city grows a few times over, this kind of thing could become a weekly occurrence, making Masdar City that much more desirable a place — and so much better than one dominated by the automobile and auto-dependent urban development.
If you haven’t already done so, enjoy The Festival a bit yourself via the video above.

*Full Disclosure: My trip to the UAE for Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week was sponsored by Masdar. That said, I wasn’t required to write or record anything for CleanTechnica. I am simply highlighting what I think is really worth highlighting.
