North American Tesla Supercharger Network Surpasses CHAdeMO In Charging Point Numbers
Tesla’s North American Supercharger network now features more charging points than the network of its CHAdeMO “rival,” according to the most recent numbers.
As per said numbers, Tesla’s North American network now consists of 884 individual charging points spread across 141 Supercharger stations, as compared to the 776 CHAdeMO charging points now operational in the US.
In other words, Tesla’s Supercharger network is now top of the pile. Not a surprise really — it’s seemed more like an inevitability for a while now — but still worth noting.
Something to keep in mind, though, is that there are still considerably more CHAdeMO stations out there than Tesla Supercharger stations — owing to the fact that CHAdeMO stations usually only feature one charging point, while Tesla’s feature considerably more (2 to 10+).
On the worldwide stage, Tesla’s numbers are even more impressive — the company’s network now encompasses 319 Supercharger stations, with the number of charging points many times higher than that, and the number of Supercharger stations growing almost by the day.
The Supercharger network should continue growing pretty rapidly over the next few years, and should offer a pretty complete coverage map by the time that Tesla launches its highly anticipated 4th model. For that matter, 2015 is expected to see the network expand significantly and should close up most of the remaining coverage dead zones.
