Sky Solar, China Development Bank, & Sigdo Koppers to Invest $900 Million in Solar PV Plants in Chile
Sky Solar, China Development Bank, and Sigdo Koppers recently “signed a cooperation framework agreement for the investment in and construction of 300MW of solar photovoltaic power plant projects in Chile with a total investment of US$900 million,” Sky Solar notes.
“This collaboration formally begins the start of the grid-parity solar PV market in South America. Sky Solar has long been committed to the development of grid-parity PV markets. In early 2010, Sky Solar began to develop and invest in a number of high sun irradiation countries, the most important of these being Chile. Chile’s politically stable government and policies, strong investment environment, electricity demand and the governments increasing focus on renewable energy makes it one of the most attractive PV markets in the world.”
A 2-MW pilot project and an 18-MW ground-mounted solar PV project are planned for this year to get the huge solar push rolling. The 150 MW or more of following solar projects are supposed to be completed over the next 18 months. The speed at which solar can be deployed — that’s one of the beauties of solar, isn’t it?
