Avatr Joins NIO Charging Network
Changan electric car unit Avatr has become the latest EV producer to join NIO’s EV charging network. It’s the 14th automaker to do so.
NIO has 2,442 supercharging stations installed in China, and 11,206 individual chargers at those stations.
The company also has 1,660 destination charging stations with 12,887 chargers.
Changan, parent company of Avatr, already partnered with NIO on its unique battery swapping network — back in November 2023. There are 2,659 NIO battery swap stations in China, a unique advantage of NIO EVs — and now Avatr EVs. These are especially helpful for people living in apartment buildings without a place at home where they can charge their EVs.
Avatr was initially formed as a joint venture between Changan and NIO back in July 2018. However, NIO quickly pulled out of the joint venture.
It seems like we are easing into a consolidation phase with the Chinese EV market. In the charging arena, NIO is standing above most others and should continue to see its network grow in terms of stations as well as partnerships.
