Beach Buggy Racing 2 (BBR2) was demo’d last week in Los Angeles at E3, where Elon Musk took the stage to talk about gaming, Tesla, SpaceX and more with game designer Todd Howard of famed design studio Bethesda. They chatted for a bit about games before jumping to the screen for a quick clip of a cartoon rendition of a Tesla Model 3 zooming around a track in BBR2.
According to Tesla, the new game is, “a kart racing game where you can careen, blast and launch your way through 22 tracks. Players can recruit new drivers (see if you can find our favorite) and use the steering wheel controls for the most immersive gaming experience.” It will use the steering wheel for the steering input, but will rely on the steering wheel buttons for functions like braking and acceleration. As fun as that would be, it only takes one accidental foot press to take the car from parked to flying-through-the-storefront-and-into-a-tub-of-nacho-cheese to ruin the fun for everyone.
Tesla clearly sees Supercharging as the perfect venue to start introducing a host of new infotainment options for owners, but that is just a teaser for the real application of the tech. Tesla sees very clearly that the future is fully autonomous, and when the driver no longer needs to drive, why not play games, watch movies, browse the web or get some work done (if you have to).
With that future in mind, the possibilities of where Tesla could take its infotainment system are nearly endless, and we’re getting our first taste of that future now. To look into the next generation of gaming in a Tesla, head over to the Tesla Arcade site to RSVP for an in-store demo of the new Tesla Arcade in all its glory. After all, that’s better than just sitting at home refreshing your app, rebooting your router, or rebooting your car in a bid to get it to pull down the latest software update. Actually, that’s not a half-bad idea. Be right back…
