Tesla’s GF3 Structure Probably Complete In May, Equipment To Follow #ElonTweets

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed in a tweet this morning that the structure of the company’s new Gigafactory in Shanghai, China, is on track for completion in May. Equipment for the factory will come in later, taking several months to be installed, be calibrated, and get up and running.

The bottom tweet is a bonus tweet added after the article was published.

The tweet confirms the breakneck pace that Tesla’s team in China continues to work at as it speeds along to get its newest factory building cars by the end of this year. Construction of the shell of the new building has been kept the world in a trance, with floods of daily updates from an army of impromptu social media hawks.

Truth be told, the shell of the building is one of the least exciting parts of the construction, but it unfortunately, one of the only parts of the construction that we will be able to see. Once the walls go up and the roof is on, we’ll be back in the dark as to progress Tesla is actually making on its new Gigafactory in Shanghai. Presumably, semi truck loads of equipment coming in and out will be the only clues we will have as to the progress towards establishing the new Model 3 production lines.

Tesla previously shared that its new Shanghai Gigafactory, which is also known as Gigafactory 3 (behind Gigafactory 1 in Nevada and Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, New York), will initially produce the Tesla Model 3 at the end of this year. Production of the recently announced Tesla Model Y will follow next year as Tesla works to ramp up production of the launch of the new vehicle, slated for late next year.

The Gigafactory 3 update from Musk came in response to a tweet from Tesla hawk and friend of CleanTechnica Vincent, who continues to leverage his Chinese network to keep the world informed about Tesla’s Gigafactory 3 progress and Chinese Tesla sales.
