Tesla Model 3 Poised To Set Norwegian Record For Most EV Sales In One Month
In March 2018, Nissan sold 2,172 new LEAF electric cars and 216 used LEAFS, establishing a new record for electric cars sold in Norway in one month (2,388 cars). As of March 14 2019, Norway’s Electric Car Statistics show 1,613 Tesla Model 3s have been registered in the country. Extrapolating those numbers for the full month of March — which has 31 days as we all remember from elementary school — the Model 3 is on pace to sell more than 3,000 cars this month, shattering the old record.
As always, Tesla is tight lipped about its sales numbers, but if the registration information is correct, not only will the Model 3 be the best selling new electric car in Norway in March, it will be the best selling car of any kind in the country. Consider this. In February, the best selling car of all in Norway was the Volkswagen Golf with a total of 868 registrations. Since it went on sale in February, the Tesla Model 3 has sold a total of 2,398 cars in Norway.
More Cars On The Way
Norwegian news source Nettavisen has asked Tesla to confirm the statistics but has been told the company will not comment on sales except to say it is fully focused on delivering cars to customers. That coincides with a video posted on YouTube recently by Tesla superfan Bjorn Nyland of a shipload of Model 3s being unloaded in Norway.
Nyland points out that most of the cars are black — the least expensive paint option — with a few cars finished in red and white, which cost extra. He adds that only the more expensive long range and performance models are available for European delivery at this time.
If demand is so strong for the top-of-the-line cars, what will it be like when the $35,000 base model becomes available, he asks? That’s an excellent question. The way things are going, there could be a month in the near future in which all new cars sold in Norway are Teslas!
