3 Heat Maps: Tesla Superchargers, Chevy Bolts, & Chevy Volts

A Tesla Motors Forum member somewhat recently posted some interesting EV-related heat maps. He used Google’s Fusion Tables and first created a heat map of Tesla Superchargers, with weighting based on number of stalls.

Naturally, California is particularly hot, with the high-end purple color creeping in around San Diego, Los Angeles, San Jose, and San Francisco.

Before flying over to the East Coast, it’s interesting to see hotspots in the Phoenix area, Dallas area, Seattle, Las Vegas, and Chicago. Presumably, those areas have high concentrations of Tesla owners.

You can also slip Detroit and Atlanta in there. Then there’s another tier of cities like Denver, Portland, San Antonio, Houston, Nashville, and Indianapolis.

And then you get to Florida and the US Northeast.

Florida is half red, with Tampa and Miami as clear focal points. In my area of Sarasota, Florida, we have a Supercharging station with ~18 parking spots next to stalls. It is pretty busy — never full, but sometimes home to more than 10 charging Teslas. Perhaps you’ve seen a few pictures from that location. 😉

From Richmond, Virginia, to Massachusetts, you have a solid corridor of densely packed Supercharging options, as you might expect.

But one map clearly was not enough. The EV fan also used stats from Voltstats.net to create heat maps of where Volt and Bolt owners on that network are located. He got quite similar results.

I think if we created a heat map of US CleanTechnica readers, we’d get a similar result. 😀
