Volkswagen Releases Images Of New All-Electric I.D. Concept Vehicle

Images of the Volkswagen I.D. all-electric concept vehicle recently surfaced, giving us our first look at the company’s new modular electric drive kit (MEB) concept.

The 373-miles-per-charge I.D. concept vehicle is slated to be revealed at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

As others around the car blogosphere have noted, the concept doesn’t look that dissimilar to the soon-to-be-released Chevy Bolt. The biggest difference doesn’t concern the looks, though, and is more to do with the fact that the Chevy Bolt is a reality, whereas the I.D. is just a concept car.

As we’ve reported several times now, Volkswagen plans to release 30 fully electric car models within the next 8½ years, sell 2–3 million electric cars a year by 2025 (20–25% of its total sales), and is investing over $10 billion into this. It is also moving away from diesel, which has very obviously been exposed as not as green or efficient as claimed previously, especially when it comes to Volkswagens.

Plans and concepts are one thing, though, and realities are another. Once Volkswagen actually releases a compelling all-electric vehicle, then the company will be considered serious by a lot more EV (and car) enthusiasts. Until then….
