Tesla Updates Supercharger Map For 2017 (Plans)

Tesla has updated its Supercharger maps on its website to reflect current expectations for buildout in 2017. These are a bit different than earlier ones. Notably, Mexico and southern Canada will be getting a fair number of new Supercharger stations before the Model 3 launch, if the plans are achieved.

In the US, the situation will apparently be similar, with a large buildout planned. The buildout should see Arkansas, North Dakota, west Texas, and West Virginia dead zones bridged by the end of 2017. The west Texas dead zone is apparently being bridged right now, from the looks of it, with 3 Supercharger locations under construction there.

Going by the current map, also currently being constructed (and soon to open) are stations in Calgary, eastern Nebraska, western Kentucky, northern Colorado, coastal South Carolina, Las Vegas, and one near the Olympic peninsula in Washington state. There also appears to be a plan to install one in Honolulu in Hawaii. There are no plans for any Supercharger stations in Alaska, though, from the looks of it.

Amongst particularly notable stations now planned for opening in 2017 are:

• one in Edmonton,
• one in Winnipeg,
• two in Vancouver,
• quite a number of new stations in California,
• some in Mexico, including one in Monterrey,
• a number of new stations near Toronto and Montreal in eastern Canada,
• and a great number along common travel routes in the mountain west, northeast, midwest, southwest, and southeast.

The network shown on the 2017 Supercharger map is a pretty substantial one from the looks of it, and will probably show itself capable of easily meeting the needs of 500,000 or so paying users, if it’s achieved.

As a reminder here, though, Tesla didn’t achieve its apparent plans for 2016 with regard to Supercharger buildout, for whatever reasons, so we’ll have to wait to see how progress goes rather than assuming the planned stations will all be built by the end of 2017.
