Rove to Build Attractive Full-Service EV Charging Centers in California

Rove, a developer of full-service electric vehicle (EV) charging centers, confirms plans to build six locations in Southern California starting in 2023.
Rove says it will set a new standard in EV charging with a premium, customer-centric experience. Focused on fast, smart, and reliable charging, each Rove will host 40 (yes, 40) ultra-fast, direct-current fast chargers (DCFC), capable of reaching a power output up to 350 kW each. It can add around 100 miles in 5 minutes and makes a full charge possible in as little as 15 minutes.
Unlike other stations, Rove will offer a full-service experience that includes onsite amenities. Centers will feature a market with all-natural and organic meals, fresh coffee, and grocery staples; an eco-friendly car wash; pristine restrooms; free Wi-Fi; 24/7 a lounge with after-hours onsite security; a patio; and a fenced area for your four-legged friends.
“Fast. Safe. Reliable. These are all things EV charging should be but isn’t. We plan to change that,” said Rove CEO and long-time EV owner Nathan McDonnell. “Our goal is to raise the bar by providing fast charging, clean amenities, and onsite support. At Rove, we’re putting the customer first.”
Rove is dedicated to environmental sustainability, and its full-service charging stations are built to promote the use of renewable energy sources in order to reduce their environmental impact. The full-service charging centers will integrate onsite solar panels and have battery storage on-site, which will help the charging center to balance the system around it and direct energy to the times of day when it is most economical.
“Nathan and his team have re-imagined the electric vehicle charging experience,” said Mark Longstreth, Partner at Newlight Partners, a private investment firm that made an initial investment in Rove in 2021. “We are proud to support Rove’s continued momentum to expand charging access and accelerate the transition of our vehicle fleet to clean and renewable energy.”
Rove plans to open 20 locations by 2026, starting with centers in Corona, Santa Ana, and Costa Mesa, California.
In order to facilitate widespread adoption of electric vehicles, the infrastructure for charging must increase. Rove is making it simpler and more enjoyable for drivers to switch to electric vehicles by offering a premium, customer-focused service, ultimately resulting in a more sustainable future. This is the dream.
This is very similar to the GRIDSERVE electric forecourts that are now operating in the UK. Those have already become popular EV charging destinations for EV drivers in the UK due to their higher quality and amenities. The electric forecourts do offer a little more. For example, visitors there can test drive the newest EVs and look into discounts from the GRIDSERVE Car Leasing program that’s available on-site.
Rove is taking a step in the right direction, creating nice, clean charging centers to charge your EV while offering a healthy snack and a jolt of espresso all at the same time. It could change the whole EV charging experience in the USA. Hopefully, over the next few years, we will start seeing more of these EV charging centers popping up all over the United States.
