Tesla & Amprius — What Is Going On? [Updated: Nothing]

Tesla fans have zeroed in on a battery startup called Amprius. A number of clues indicate that it may be acquired by Tesla in the future, or that it at least plays a role in Tesla’s battery innovation and coming announcements at Tesla Battery Day. I’ll come back to the Tesla–Amprius connections in a minute. First, once I saw the name popping up, I recognized it and decided to check the CleanTechnica archives for it. Let’s start there.

Battery Design Could Help Solar And Wind Power The Grid

This post first appeared on the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory website by Mike Ross Researchers from the US Department of Energy’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and Stanford University have designed a low-cost, long-life battery that could enable solar and wind energy to become major suppliers to the electrical grid. “For solar and … [continued]

Stanford Engineers Weld Nanowires with Light

By Andrew Myers One area of intensive research at the nanoscale is the creation of electrically conductive meshes made of metal nanowires. Promising exceptional electrical throughput, low cost and easy processing, engineers foresee a day when such meshes are common in new generations of touch-screens, video displays, light-emitting diodes, … [continued]

The Battery That Keeps on Going?

Now Cui and his team of researchers have calculated a way to alternate the flow of river water and salty seawater through a battery to produce electricity that can be used for charging purposes. It might also be possible this same process can be reversed to remove salt from seawater to produce drinking water.
