Wyoming To Hitch A Ride On “Record-Shattering” US Solar Industry
The US solar industry is celebrating another “record-shattering” year, despite concerns that more counties are blocking solar development.

A gigantic new solar module factory is just the tip of the renewable energy revolution taking place in Texas.
The utility-scale solar sector has led the overall U.S. solar market in terms of installed capacity since 2012. In 2018, the utility-scale sector accounted for nearly 60% of all new solar capacity, and is expected to maintain its market-leading position for at least another six years.
Last year saw the largest growth in new power generation capacity in the US in more than a decade — 34.7 gigawatts of new capacity came online. While growth across a mix of energy resources contributed to this jump, new gas plant development overshadowed all renewable energy sources, combined.
A total of 16 gigawatts (GW) worth of new utility-scale solar PV was brought online through the first half of 2018 according to new figures published this week by Wiki-Solar, representing a 20% decline on the same period of time a year earlier.
Utility-scale solar installations—including both photovoltaic (PV) and thermal technologies—grew at an average rate of 72% per year between 2010 and 2016, faster than any other generating technologies. Utility-scale solar (plants with a capacity of at least one megawatt) now makes up about 2% of all utility-scale electric generating capacity and 0.9% of utility-scale generation.
Within days after the catastrophic electoral college win of an autocrat with promised climate ruin, the Obama Administration Bureau of Land Management (BLM) finalized new competitive auctions for desert solar leases with the same safeguards as those for oil and gas leases.
New figures from GTM Research have revealed that the United States currently has 10 GW of utility-scale solar PV projects currently under construction. The figures come courtesy of GTM Research’s Utility PV Market Tracker, which does exactly what its name claims it does. It’s an impressive milestone for the US solar … [continued]
A new report has found that more than half of all new US utility-scale solar installations in 2016 will be built above obligations set in states’ Renewable Portfolio Standards. According to new figures published in a new report, The Next Wave of US Utility Power: Procurement beyond the RPS, GTM Research … [continued]
Originally published on Solar Love. This 2014 report from the US Department of Energy provides an empirical analysis of project cost, performance, and pricing trends in the United States. It should be pointed out other utility scale solar projects are also being launched elsewhere in the world. This introductory text, … [continued]
