Those Wild Electric Cars That Influenced Modern EVs & PHEVs

Along the way on the rebirth of the modern electric vehicle (EV), we’ve witnessed some “far out” and pretty wild projects. We also saw some of the world’s smartest folks pull together top engineers and brilliant ideas. Some of these companies and projects have threatened conventional carmakers inebriated with bottom line profits to the detriment of innovation. Sadly, some of the companies have fallen by the wayside, while other idle, waiting for the right moment to hopefully capitalize on the business sense of their leadership.

Energy-Dense Supercapacitors Based On Graphene

Researchers at Monash University, led by Professor Dan Li of the Department of Materials Engineering, have developed a graphene-based supercapacitor (sometimes these are called ultracapacitors) which can achieve a volumetric energy density similar to that of a lead-acid battery. Volumetric energy density is the ratio of the supercapacitors’ energy storage … [continued]

Graphene Supercapacitors — Next-Generation Energy Storage Now One Step Closer

This article has been reposted from Green Building Elements. An entirely new strategy for engineering graphene-based supercapacitors has been developed by researchers at Monash University — potentially leading the way to powerful next-generation renewable energy storage systems. The new strategy also opens up the possibility of using graphene-based supercapacitors in electric … [continued]

ABB Flash-Charging Bus — More Details

A couple weeks ago, we wrote about ABB’s new ultrafast flash-charging bus. At the time, I noted some reader speculation about some of the details: “I’m betting a hybrid ultracapacitor and battery pack….” I sent the following questions over to an ABB rep as a result: ” Can you say if this … [continued]
