The news about SpaceX getting the go-ahead by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for its next phase in deploying the low orbit Starlink satellite internet made me wonder how that many satellites would actually work together to provide the very high throughput and low latency network that Elon Musk has in mind.
One of the benefits of being an early adopter (or first follower) of clean energy solutions is the incentives available to help lessen our dependence on fossil fuels. Many national, state, and local governments offer some forms of incentives for consumers to make the switch from fossil fuels to electricity; to upgrade from gasoline or diesel vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs). In some locations, you can even get some financial help when you install an EV charging station at your home or business.
Electric delivery vans are coming from Chanje, Workhorse, Mercedes, DHL, and possibly Tesla. They will play a significant role in decarbonizing the transportation sector.
The German minister for Economic Affairs, Peter Altmaier, has delivered a hardcore smackdown to local auto giants, asking them when they will build EVs that are “half as sexy as a Tesla.”
This week we broke a record — the smallest number of articles about Tesla. While there is merit to the argument that bad press is still press, Tesla doesn’t need it.
After a record-breaking September (104,900 plug-in electric vehicle sales), one would think that the market would take some time to breathe in October, but that wasn’t the case, with close to 120,000 registrations last month, breaking the previous record by a significant margin (14%). Overall, October 2018 electric vehicle sales were up 85% year over year (YoY).
Earlier today, I highlighted the Tesla Model 3’s solid sales launch compared to the iconic Ford Mustang, which the Model 3 is outselling by ~1.5× this year so far. But the Mustang has never been seen as the car the Model 3 is really trying to retire — or at least humble a bit. That car is, of course, the BMW 3 Series (+ 4 Series).
When writing my letter to Elon Musk a few weeks ago, little did I know about the real actions undertaken by so few for so many. Tesla is a dream — a dream of an extraordinary electric vehicle everybody wants to own, a dream of an out-of-the-universe leader, Elon Musk, who everybody wants to follow, and a dream of a gigafactory every nation wants to attract. It seems now that Poles around the world are joining forces to save Elon from making a terrible mistake by going some other place than Poland. 🙂 Here is the story.
Buying a Tesla is the most important thing you can do for the environment because it will help to dramatically lower the cost of batteries, making a 100% renewable grid affordable. Elon Musk recently said (and he is right!), “I think it’s probably fair to say that Tesla (our customers) has advanced sustainable energy by at least five years, conservatively, and maybe closer to 10, and then if we continue to make progress, we might advance it by 20 years. This could be all the difference in the world.”
While working on October Tesla sales reports, I noticed a few interesting comparisons that seemed worth highlighting separately. First of all, if you think of iconic sporty cars, and especially iconic American muscle cars, the Ford Mustang is surely one of the first cars that comes to mind.
