It’s just another day in the busy city of Casablanca, Morocco. There’s lots of traffic, many pedestrians, and even a speed bump that Tesla’s Autopilot handles with ease.
At The Mobility Conference in Abu Dhabi, UAE — a collaboration between Global EVRT, CleanTechnica, and Masdar — CleanTechnica Director Zach Shahan interviewed UAE Minister of Energy and Industry Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei about the future of transport and the UAE’s leadership in e-mobility and renewable energy.
I landed a couple of pretty interesting scoops today while in Abu Dhabi for Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. First of all, I found out that Tesla is opening a store in the UAE next month — it’s unclear if the store will be in Abu Dhabi or Dubai or both cities. That was expected for a long time, though, especially given that the backdrop of Dubai has appeared in some Tesla advertising.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) seems like an ideal place for Tesla Motors. Clearly, the country has money, and people with money can afford Teslas — which nearly everyone seems to want. Additionally, UAE leadership — despite making a fortune and a half on oil & gas — seems to be keenly aware that the future is cleantech, and the future is coming faster than a Tesla Model S P100D.
