No, Tesla Is NOT The Largest US Automaker Ever

Over the last couple of days, as Tesla continues on this monstrous run, the media seems to have been noting that Tesla is now more valuable than any US automaker’s market cap ever. (Tesla is currently almost exactly the market cap of Ford and GM combined, around $88 billion.) Even though I would now plant myself firmly in the “bull” camp, this is completely untrue, and I think it paints a problematic picture of Tesla.

Tesla’s Website Through The Years

It’s a new year, a new decade, and a new Tesla. As we zoom into 2020, we can look back over the years and see how not only Tesla the company has evolved but also its website. In 2010, we didn’t have HTML5 yet and flash websites were all the rage. Also, MySpace was just starting to fizzle out. The 2010s are the decade we are finishing, but Tesla’s website history goes back to 2007, so this is where we will begin. (There was even a time in which many thought we were all going to die in 2012 — Mayan Prophecy — but we survived and so did Tesla, luckily.)

Largest US Solar Panel Manufacturers By Capacity

Some of the largest US solar panel manufacturers by capacity will probably see growth over the next decade as we (society in general) move toward using more sustainable, renewable energy. The US solar panel manufacturing has certainly matured a great deal in the past decade, with many companies not making it while others grow to lead the pack. Solar Power World has published a list of the largest solar panel manufacturers in the US by capacity.
