Aptera released its “Never Charge” electric vehicle a little over a week ago, and the company already has preorders for over $100 million, and is also seeing lots of views for its launch video.
CleanTechnica and EVObsession appreciate the innovative, including early EV adopters. Although we support the wonders of icons such as Elon Musk and his oh so Zen Teslas, we also value every other EV. Being an old organic farmer raised in innovative cultures of do-it-yourself lifestyles, I certainly value action-oriented individuals such as Sam Elliot. Sam is one of the doers not afraid of smaller range EVs to live the zero-emissions way of life. His innovative work helping him to use a smaller-range EV without that any range anxiety is one to be validated and cheered.
After my recent article about solar electric vehicles (EVs), I came across something I didn’t expect to see so fast. Since the prices of both used EVs and solar panels have fallen so much, the price is now where DIY tinkerers are willing to break out their Dremel tools and make a go of it themselves.
Recently, Toyota announced a special research and development project. With Sharp and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), it has put a special test vehicle together that uses solar panels to generate almost 1 kW of energy during daylight hours, whether the vehicle is driving or sitting.
Hyundai says it is working on three solar charging systems that may appear on Hyundai and Kia cars after 2019. The output of the systems will be modest, but every watt helps increase range and lower emissions.
Available only in black, the world’s first series-produced electric car with solar integration will be released in late 2019.
