British companies RBS (formerly Royal Bank of Scotland) and Landsec have this week increased their corporate climate leadership positions, becoming the world’s first companies to become members of all three corporate leadership initiatives of The Climate Group — RE100, EV100, and EP100.
Global corporate leadership initiative RE100 announced late last week that several big-name companies had joined in commitment to securing 100% of their energy needs from renewable sources, including entertainment and electronics giant Sony Corporation.
The Royal Bank of Scotland announced a new suite of energy financing policies at the end of May, which are designed to substantially reduce the bank’s exposure to fossil fuel investments and includes halting project-specific financing for new coal-fired power stations, coal mines, and oil sands and Arctic oil projects.
