The purpose of writing this article is to tell you my experience with the Tesla referral program and why I think it is ending.

The German plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) passenger car market ended the year dropping 10% in December, to 5,711 registrations, with fully electric cars continuing to expand (+12% YoY) while plug-in hybrid electrics couldn’t find a way out of their hole (-35% in December). Fully electrics (BEVs) now clearly outselling plugin hybrids (PHEVs) — 67% PEV segment share for BEVs in December, and well above the 2018 average (53%).
Nissan is trying to do something different with the all-electric IMs concept that it just unveiled at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.
History is sometimes ironic.
The French state saw Carlos Ghosn’s refusal to merge Nissan into Renault as an obstacle to the growth of the former national car company. They attributed it to his megalomania, and not to sentiments within Nissan and Japan. He could only keep his job at Renault when he promised to make the alliance irreversible, nearly as good as a full merger. That job would be for his successor.
Nissan brought 2 new electric vehicle concepts this week, one an SUV and one it says is not an SUV. Are they anything to get excited about? You decide.
It’s time for another CleanTechnica Car of the Year competition. The cool thing is that there is no Tesla competitor this year, which means we have a legitimate competition in which any of the finalists could win!
Following up on my report on fully electric car sales, I was planning to write a report highlighting the year-over-year growth plug-in hybrids saw in the USA last year.
The French plug-in electric passenger car market scored 5,644 registrations in December (+18% YoY), a new all-time record, and the result could have been if it weren’t for the dismal results of plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), which were down 21%, their sharpest drop since 2016.
The numbers are in and 2018 turned out to be quite a solid year for electric vehicle sales in the US.
After many delays and years of waiting that would flush Tesla’s cheeks in embarrassment, the 60kWh Nissan LEAF (“LEAF 2,” or “LEAF 3.ZERO” in the UK) is starting production. The planning is this month for Japan, sometime in the spring for North America, and during the summer for those waiting on the old continent and in the UK and Ireland.
