We recently covered a solar industry report showing that solar power in Q2 of 2011 grew considerably and many jobs came with that, but there were more interesting points in that report as well. According to this report by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and GTM Research, New Jersey has surpassed California as the hottest and largest commercial solar market.
Recently, I wrote about how the incredible success of the New Jersey solar and Pennsylvania solar markets was beginning to have adverse consequences with respect to each state’s primary solar incentive, the Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC). Two months later, the trend is continuing to get worse but solar advocates in both states are beginning to get a grip on the problem and are putting the downturn in proper market context.
New Jersey continues its incredible solar development – now rivaling California’s, as a result of its membership in RGGI and participation in regional cap and trade and renewable energy policy that makes new clean energy investment more competitive with fossil energy through the sale of SRECs.
It’s hard not to report on the biggest solar, wind, or other renewable energy projects when they pop up (or get close to popping up). And why shouldn’t I? It’s a sign that these clean energy sources are maturing and an encouragement to you and others to implement clean energy projects yourself! The latest ‘biggest’ solar project I’ve read news about is an especially ‘fun’ one. Toys”R”Us (how do I make that “R” go backwards) is dropping the largest solar rooftop installation in North America on its distribution center in Flanders, New Jersey (its largest distribution center).
