On Tuesday, we looked at the unveiling of the wildly impressive Lucid Motors Air at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. The Air’s performance was already noteworthy on paper, but my test ride was beyond expectations. I haven’t been this happy about a new electric vehicle, EV since the unveiling of the Tesla Model S P90D, and before that, the Roadster and AC Propulsion’s eBox.
In a previous article on CleanTechnica, I dissed the Lucid Motors Air introduction as yet another electric vehicle (EV) hypercar. Boy, was I wrong! An EV hypercar it is, and a real one at that.
Hot on the heels of Faraday Future’s second odd CES presentation for its FF91, the Lucid Air seemed like yet another unobtainium hyper-EV. I missed a few points I’ll clarify here. Last night, Lucid Motors introduced its wild EV called the Air to a bewildered crowd at the Los Angeles Petersen Museum. We took a ride in it and it is anything. but. vaporware.
Lucid Motors has begun taking refundable deposits for its 1000-horsepower, 400-mile all-electric sedan, the Air. While the deposits are reportedly completely refundable, they are still pretty substantial … so it will be interesting to see how many the firm manages to take (if it ends up publicly revealing these figures).

When we covered news of an interesting test ride in the Lucid Motors Air prototype a few weeks ago, we noted that the experience included a short demonstration of the vehicle’s self-driving capabilities. Given the way things are headed in the auto industry, the company understandably seems to be aware that self-driving features will be an expected component in luxury offerings within only a few years.
Following the official unveiling of its very interesting “Air” luxury sedan model, and plans to build a manufacturing facility in Arizona, Lucid Motors has announced that it has signed a strategic supply agreement with LG Chem.
