Tesla Battery Day is less than a week away. In my view, most Tesla commentary continues to overlook what is already known when it comes to predictions for what will be revealed on Tesla Battery Day.
Tesla’s second quarter earnings call just confirmed what may be the hottest technology topic for the electric vehicle revolution. Relatively inexpensive and abundant Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries are well suited to affordable mass market EVs, so long as they are energy efficient. This confirms that frequent concerns over battery mineral constraints (and fundamental cost barriers) for powering the EV transition can potentially be laid to rest.
One of the stealth technologies that was unveiled at the recent Solar Power International trade show in Salt Lake City a few weeks ago is the plug-and-play solar+storage+nanogrid solution from start-up DR Microgrid, of Santa Ana, CA. It looks like a killer app because it is the only other system of its kind on the US market except that of Sonnen, which is more expensive, says DR Microgrid President AJ Perkins.

The M1 definitely doesn’t look like the typical e-bike and as you might expect, it doesn’t ride like one either. Most e-bikes look much more like a traditional bicycle, whereas the M1 was clearly designed as the modern incarnation of a classic cafe racer.
