BYD is bringing a wee bit more sunshine into the grid with the announcement that it has partnered with Apparent, Inc. to develop a 2 megawatt solar installation at its Lancaster, California Coach & Bus plant. The installation will be paired with a 2 megawatt-hour stationary energy storage installation that will help the company to maximize the amount of power it uses from its own generation.
BYD has made progress in electrifying the east coast of the United States with a delivery of 5 electric buses to Martha’s Vineyard Transit Authority.

Lancaster, California, produces more solar power per capita than any other city in the state. Devastated by the recession of 2009, when unemployment rose to 17%, the city has made its commitment to solar the basis of its economic rebirth. Today it is home to the BYD truck and bus factory, which just finished an expansion that tripled its original size.
