The World Bank earlier this month approved $185 million in financing to help Bangladesh develop up to 310 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy and to mobilize private sector participation to help meet the growing electricity demand in the country.
The World Bank’s International Development Association’s RERED program has brought solar power to more than 300,000 homes and small businesses in rural Bangladesh. With the addition of another $172 million credit facility, the IDA and its RERED partners intend to bring that to over a million.
