Every nation of this world will do its best to protect its industry for the good of the country’s economy and its people. Politicians are elected to make sure industries and jobs are doing well, to stabilize income, and to reduce risk. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this protection. Unfortunately, politics can, by trying its very best to support its industry, destroy it without even realizing what’s happening. This has happened before, and there is a large risk that it’s happening today in the largest automotive producing countries, like Germany, Japan, and the USA.

But that’s not stopping some from clinging to diesel. The Verge reports, “Germany is divided about the future of its most important industry: while some automakers pursue electric vehicles, a noisy group of diesel-energy enthusiasts are expressing their frustration through protests. These have gone on every weekend so far this year.”

A possible electric vehicle battery raw material shortage could limit the planned growth of the sector over the coming years, an exec at Germany’s largest auto industry association, BDI, has been quoted as saying.

The warning from BDI’s head of security and raw materials, Matthias Wachter, posits that demand for electric vehicles is growing faster than production capacity and thus that raw material bottlenecks may emerge relatively soon owing to resource market realities.
