PSA Group CEO Says Proposed 2020 CO2 Fines In Europe Would Create “Chinese Trojan Horse”

Now that the other talking points have been mostly expended, PSA Group CEO Carlos Tavares has moved on to a last-ditch effort. He is arguing against the European Union’s planned 2020 carbon dioxide auto industry fines (if compliance with fleet-level fuel-efficiency goals aren’t met) by saying that such a course of action will “create a Chinese Trojan Horse.”

For that matter, it seems hard to argue that he isn’t prone to stretching the truth quite a bit.

Mandated Auto Company Fines For Missing Fuel Economy Standards Postponed 4 Years

In an “interesting” move, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has postponed a congressionally mandated increase in fines for auto manufacturers not in compliance with fuel economy standards until the 2019 model year. Previous to this decision, the fine increase was slated to go into effect for the 2015 model year (retroactively) and every year following.
