Wind Power Growth Rebounds 15% in H1 2011, Capacity Rises ~23%

The worldwide wind energy market has been rebounding strongly from a weak 2010 through the first half of this year, according to the World Wind Energy Association’s (WWEA) half-year report for 2011. Some 18,405 megawatts (MW) of wind power came on-line in the first six months of 2011, a 15% year-to-year increase over first half 2010’s 16,000MW, bringing worldwide wind power capacity to 215,000MW as of end June.

Projected Wind Power Growth (Worldwide)

If you haven’t gotten the picture by now, wind power has been blowing up in recent years and it is expected to continue on that trend for several years to come, at least. Here’s a look at some projections for world wind power, China wind power, India wind power, U.S. wind power, and Europe wind power growth in the coming decades.

World Wind Power Capacity & An Idea

One of our readers and I are putting together a comprehensive resource page for all things wind (will do the same for solar power, tidal power, and more eventually as well). As we create each section, I thought I’d post them (or parts of them) here. The first section we’re tackling is installed wind power capacity around the world. Here’s the main part of that (but have some extra, unique parts to be added soon).
