Nicholas Hulot, the new environmental minister for France, has announced a 5-year plan that will lead to that country becoming carbon neutral by 2050. The plan is part of France’s commitment to the Paris climate accords. One feature of the proposal would prohibit the sale of all cars with internal combustion engines by the year 2040.
France is taking the lead among European nations by banning new oil and gas exploration beginning later this year.
We’ve written a few times about how China has the opportunity (and seems to be taking it) to increase its global influence and power thanks to the Trump presidency. There are various avenues for achieving that, but the largest of them seems to be Trump’s science denial and absurd ideas regarding global warming and sensible climate action.
Now, another global superpower is following suit with this opening, but much more directly.
