I’m a big fan of the Tesla Model Y. I’ve written about the Model Y’s 3rd row being the key to it becoming the best selling vehicle in the world, the Model Y beating the Lamborghini Urus (which is over 3 times the price), styling tricks that Tesla used to make an SUV looks like a performance sedan, and most recently Tesla cutting Model Y prices.
The Hyundai Kona Electric SUV goes on public display for the first time in Geneva this week. It will offer two battery sizes to meet the needs of more customers.
One of the challenges of the current EV market is extreme lack of choice. There are only a few widely available models, and even if you look in the most popular markets (California, Norway, etc.), EV models only account for a small percentage of all the vehicle classes. We were curious which classes were most desired for future EV purchases and again polled respondents on this topic (simply in regards to size and style, not taking into account price).
By most measures, the Chevy Bolt is a breakthrough electric vehicle and may become the best-selling pure electric car in the US in 2017. And for that likely achievement, GM should be applauded. But I have to ask: “What if?”
The Q&A session following every Tesla quarterly earnings call is the time when Tesla CEO Elon Musk likes to slip in little tidbits of information that no one was expecting. On the Q1 earnings call on May 3, Musk was asked if the Model Y crossover the company plans to build will be based on the Model 3 platform. The question got a terse “No,” from Musk.
