Peugeot Beats Renault In France! (EV Sales Report)
The French electric vehicle market is more exciting than it’s ever been, as plugin vehicle share reaches 12%.
The French electric vehicle market is more exciting than it’s ever been, as plugin vehicle share reaches 12%.
A future star lands in a record market (19% share!)
While the overall automotive market has seen its blues highlighted by the recent Covid resurgence (down 27% in November), plugin vehicle sales continued to be steaming hot (+204%), with plugin hybrids (PHEVs) growing faster than full electrics (up 291%, to 9,144 units).
While the overall automotive market is continuing down its negative path (-10% in October), plugin sales continue to be steaming hot (+360%!). Plugin hybrids (PHEVs) are shining above everything else (up 388%, to 9,945 units, a new record).
While the overall French automotive market had a so so month (-3% in September), plugin vehicle sales continued to be steaming hot (+322%!). Plugin hybrids (PHEVs) were up 486%, to 7,867 units, faring better than 100% electric vehicles (BEVs), which were up only 138%, to 10,011 registrations.
Even with the overall automotive market back in the dog house (-20% in August), plugin sales continue to be immune to the surrounding doom and gloom, with plugin hybrids (PHEVs) up 269%, to 5,266 units, faring better than fully electric vehicles (BEVs), which were up only 167%, to 5,590 registrations, allowing plugin hybrids to have 49% of the plugin market last month, above this year’s average (35%) and quite possibly the highest share ever by plugin hybrids in this traditionally BEV-friendly market.
The Dog Days Are Over in the French EV market, with the pandemic’s disruption now behind it, and a new stimulus package from the local government that can go up to €12,000. (Now imagine if the €16,000 Dacia Spring EV lands in time for this kind of incentive — it will be yours for peanuts!)
With the overall French market slowly returning to normal (last month it was down just 50%), plugin vehicle sales are also returning to form, with registrations up a splendid 77% year over year in May, to 7,167 units.
While the overall French market ground to a halt due to the coronavirus lockdown (-89% year over year), plugins were down just 66%, with fully electric vehicles (BEVs) faring slightly better, down only -62%. That allowed BEVs to have 74% of the plugin market last month, slightly better than this year’s average of 73%.
With the overall French market crumbling (-72% year over year!) due to the coronavirus lockdown, and the country returning to registrations levels (62,668 units) not seen in the past 50 years, one would think that plug-ins would suffer too, right? The answer to that is “yes” and “no.”
