UK Renewables Generate Record Levels Of Electricity In 2018

UK tidal power company Tidal Lagoon Power has this week struck back at the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, saying that its recent decision not to support the 320 megawatt (MW) Swansea Tidal Lagoon project in Wales and its statement on tidal lagoons as a whole was "designed to mislead" and was "a manifest distortion of the truth."


UK Sets Public Sector Emissions Reduction Target Of 43%

The UK Government last week announced it will stretch its public sector greenhouse gas emissions reduction target to 43% by 2019 to 2020 based on 2009 to 2010 levels in a move the government hopes will result in £340 million in savings. 


UK Renewable Electricity Generation Tops 30%, Scotland Increases By 11%

New figures from the UK's Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy published on Thursday showed that renewable energy accounted for 30.1% of the country's total electricity generation in the first quarter, up 3% and boasting record wind generation that accounted for over half of total renewable energy generation. 


UK Offshore Wind Now Cheaper Than Gas & Nuclear

The UK's latest competitive auction saw offshore wind prices tumble to record lows of as little as £57.50 per MWh, a 47% decrease on past offshore wind prices, and dipping well below the price guaranteed to the Hinkley Point nuclear power plant.
