BYD has landed its first SkyRail contract in South America with a new deal with the Brazilian city of Salvador that will see a stretch of the overhead light rail system running over the water.
BYD’s core competency is batteries, which blossomed as a result of founder, CEO, and Chairman Wang Chuanfu’s technical mastery and eye towards the future. He led BYD into cell phone batteries when cell phones made their entrance into the market (in the ’90s!) and then into laptop battery supply as businesses shifted from desktop computing to portable computing solutions.
BYD has announced an effort with the Egyptian city of Alexandria to explore the possible installation of BYD’s SkyRail system in the port city. The announcement comes after BYD’s General Manager for the Middle East & Africa Auto Sales Division, AD Huang, and Chairman of the Alexandria Passenger Transportation Authority, Khaled Eleiwa, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the effort.
