ABB Lands $55 Million Eolicas do Sul Contract for Substation, Equipment Infrastructure

Brazil's working to integrate more clean, renewable wind power and renewable energy sources into the national grid, and Eolcias do Sul is turning to ABB for supporting infrastructure. The contract award follows in the wake of Brazil's development bank effectively locking out five of the world's largest wind turbine manufacturers from the market for failing to meet local content requirements


Installed Wind Power Capacity Up 21% Globally in 2011

Market statistics released Tuesday by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) show that over 41,000 megawatts (or 41 gigawatts) of new wind power was installed globally in 2011, bringing the overall total of installed capacity around the world to more than 238,000 megawatts (238 gigawatts) by the end of 2011. This represents an increase of 21 percent with an increase in the size of the annual global market of just over six percent


80% of Contracts in Latest Brazil Power Auction Are for Wind Power

In Brazil’s latest power auction earlier this week — a process in which developers bid for contracts with the country’s national electricity agency — more than 80% of contracts were for wind projects. This follows an auction in August that brought in power contracts for wind that were below the bidding price of natural gas plants
