Austin Energy has an EVs For Schools program that teaches students about electric mobility. What an interesting idea!
The 120 megawatt solar facility near Austin, Texas, is now in operation. It has 1.2 million solar panels. It was built and will be operated by First Solar during a 15 year power purchase agreement with Austin Energy.
In January, the US Department of Energy announced $18 million in funding for six new projects. The goal? Enabling the development of integrated, scalable, and cost-effective solar technologies that incorporate energy storage to power American homes after the sun sets or when clouds are overhead. The funding is part of the … [continued]
The US Department of Energy recently announced that it will provide $18 million for six new projects which are focused on developing more energy storage solutions for solar power, and for making the grid more resilient. These two focus areas are part of the DOE’s Grid Modernization Initiative and the … [continued]
I’ve been meaning for months to get back to covering all of the one-on-one conversations between cleantech experts that the Renewable Cities team organized during the Renewable Cities Global Learning Forum. Thanks to Christmas weekend, I can finally get to these! Below are six more of these conversations, followed at the end … [continued]
Update: I added the Lazard chart on levelized cost of electricity and the update below it in order to provide some context for those who don’t realize that 4¢/kWh (or even 5.71¢/kWh) is lower than the lowest LCOE for all other sources of electricity other than wind power. Texans likes to be #1. … [continued]
Originally published on Solar Love. Recently, the city of Austin raised its solar power goal from 200 MW by 2020 to 950 MW by 2025. 200 MW of this solar power will be operating within Austin’s city limits and 750 MW will be utility-scale solar. Actually, the goal for Austin … [continued]
Here’s another cleantech news roundup. I’m making it a short one since I’m *trying* to start doing these once a day again. Wish me luck! Cleantech News Pie (i.e. solar + EVs + other) I was interviewed for another podcast recently. The interesting thing about this one is that it … [continued]
By Brian Orion Utilities across the country have been fighting to curtail net energy metering (NEM) programs in favor of value of solar tariff (VOST) programs, claiming that NEM results in a cost-shift to non-solar customers. However, NEM programs may actually undercompensate solar customers for the true value their systems … [continued]
