Driving electric in many African countries is a whole lot cheaper than driving ICE. Ghana, like many other African countries, has a very low motorization rate compared to most parts of the developed world. Mobility For Africa (MFA) has just completed the first of a two-part pilot phase which we covered here recently. MFA has now started the second phase of the pilot. MFA tested several models which included exploring agricultural produce transport services as well as general taxi services. It also used the pilot to measure the financial viability of the project as well as identifying solutions for different business models

Except for South Africa, which is highly dependent on coal and its two nuclear power plants, there are no other nuclear power plants in Africa and very few coal plants. The African Development Bank and South African state-owned electric utility Eskom signed a $365 million loan package that will help fund two historic renewable energy projects. The AfDB also pledged $498 million for Moroccan solar power projects. Africa, along with all nations around the world, stands at an energy crossroads. The AfDB loans will provide a substantive boost as South Africa and Morocco attempt to transition to clean energy economies that may serve as a model across the continent and beyond
