The European EV market had more than 18,500 registrations last month, 5% down over the same month last year. This sales slip has to do with the incentives-derived sales rush in the last quarter of 2015 in some major EV markets, so expect this trend to continue through December. Last month, the top spots remained more or less like in October:
BMW cars with a plug, electric motor, and battery are now approximately 1 out of every 16 BMW USA passenger car sales (6.4% of such sales), based on November’s sales split. That includes sales from 3 fully electric and plug-in hybrid BMW models: the BMW i3, BMW i8, and BMW 330e. The BMW X5 xDrive 40e was not included in this calculation since it falls under BMW’s “light trucks” category.

A new joint venture has formed that will develop a high-power, EV fast-charging network in Europe has been signed by BMW, Daimler, Ford, and Volkswagen Group (including Audi and Porsche). In other words, these major auto companies are looking to finally catch up to Tesla on one of the most critical components of a healthy and vibrant electric vehicle ecosystem.
