Volkswagen will be releasing a new all-electric SUV model based on the ID CROZZ concept in the US in 2020, a company exec has revealed at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. Yes, 2020 — not 2018 or 2019. Still, that’s approximately two years away and could provide a good boost to electric vehicle sales in the country simply due to the popularity of that segment — if Volkswagen builds it well, sells it at a competitive price, and actually gets it into dealers’ hands. And, reportedly, Volkswagen is aiming to do just that.

Electric Cars Up 137% In Germany, Approaching 2% Market Share

All signs point to a changing of the winds in Germany with regards to plug-in vehicles. Emissions scandal after emissions scandal have raked the confidence of the public in the German auto industry and many have started to take action. Sales number from August show that nearly 2% (1.88% to be exact) of new vehicle sales in Germany were plug-in vehicles, with fully electric vehicles up +137%. That’s a higher percentage share of new vehicle sales than in the United States.

Every Plug-In Car Model Has A Selling Point

Not that long ago, only a few electric cars were on the market. Nowadays, there are a few dozen. We certainly have a few favorites here on CleanTechnica, but every plug-in car really has its own selling points. I’m sure I don’t have a comprehensive list of these in my head, and many of the points are definitely as subjective as opinions about music or movies, but below are many of my thoughts on why I’d recommend various plug-in models.

US Electric Car Sales Up 59% In January 2017

US electric car sales continue to climb to new heights in 2017. Growing 59% year over year (YoY), approximately 12,000 electric cars were sold across the country in January, accounting for approximately 1% of US auto sales. The top five models accounted for approximately 40% of total US electric car sales, as most models are still compliance cars that are not designed or marketed to really pull in buyers — and aren’t even available in most states.
