Tesla [TSLA] FUD: The Earnings Are Coming!

There are a slew of articles right now telling wildly different stories about what we should expect when Tesla reports its earnings on October 23rd after the bell. Articles have ranged from negative spin to positive spin. The negatives mostly seem centered around wondering if Tesla’s revenues may have gone down as the product mix became more Model 3-centric, and the positives are about how many analysts have been revising their earnings expectation up lately.

Tesla FUD: I Was Wrong

A while ago, I started a semi-regular series in which I examined specific cases of Tesla FUD (or “Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt”). The plan was that I would look at a FUD topic that it seemed a ton of stock analysts were suddenly communicating about Tesla. Tesla FUD Series Meta Post: A Case For My Caution Regarding #TSLA

It’s been a bit of time since my last FUD article. When I wrote it, on March 11, a share of TSLA stock was worth $290.92 at close. I guess the good news if you are a shareholder is that it is up from June 3rd (when it closed at $178.97) by over 17%, which I suppose is great if you bought the stock at that exact moment.

The Alderwoman of Amsterdam, Sharon Dijksma, is advancing the city’s Clean Air Action Plan towards a ban of all fossil burning vehicles by 2030. Current transport-related air pollution in the city is the equivalent of smoking 6 cigarettes per day, reducing average life expectancy by 3 months. The auto industry lobby is up in arms, calling the plan “bizzare, beyond all reality.” The city council will debate the measures from the end of May, with a final decision by the summer.
