Miami-Dade is taking a big first step into the electrified future with the purchase of 33 fully electric buses from Proterra. The agreement represents the largest purchase of electric buses to date on the east coast of the United States.
Parent company PepsiCo, Inc. is replacing the fleet of diesel freight vehicles that service its Frito-Lay plant in Modesto, California with zero-emission and near-zero emission vehicles. The upgrades are coming to the central California facility thanks to funding provided by the state-funded Zero- and Near Zero-Emission Freight Facility Project.
The Tesla Model 3 has taken the US luxury car market by storm. When sales soared through the roof in the second half of 2018, making the Model 3 far and away the best selling luxury car in the country and the best selling car car of any type in terms of revenue, fans were excited for the launch of a new era. Critics, on the other hand, saw it as a temporary boom from early reservation holders that would soon be over, resulting in a crash in Tesla sales, Tesla financials, and the company as a whole.
We talked at length about it years ago at a CleanTechnica conference in Berlin. The night the Tesla Model 3 was first shown to the public, Kyle Field and I were on the test track — only sharing the road and driveway with a few Tesla employees, a black matte Tesla Model 3 prototype, a silver Tesla Model 3 prototype, and a couple of other Teslas. In the 20 minute (but not the 10 minute abridged) video I shared of that extremely lucky test track experience, I didn’t interrupt the fun sounds of the test track fog shooters and the smoothly rolling Teslas very much, but while talking with a Tesla employee near the beginning I laughed a bit out of my awe for the beautiful, super fresh Model 3 and what it would mean for the auto industry. I was picturing elite auto giants in the board room of BMW and Audi sobbing.

More range! More range! That’s the mantra that has replaced the “More power!” of the internal combustion engine (ICE) era. How much range is enough? All we know at this point is that car buyers want more. Tesla, always attuned to consumer desires, upped the stakes once again in April, increasing the range of Model S to what Road & Track colorfully calls “a bladder-busting 370 miles.” The interesting thing is that the company achieved this 35-mile increase without increasing the size of the battery.
Electric power systems in electric buses have excellent operating parameters, are quiet and highly efficient, and make it possible to recover energy while braking. Yet to make these electric power systems more available to the public transportation sector, there needs to be a better focus on extended range.

While the Xpeng G3 electric vehicle (EV) continues its stellar sales climb, the stunning P7 EV has finished a round of tests equal to traveling 10 times around the globe. The company also secured a charging network and ecosystem partnership with TELD, China’s largest charging infrastructure. Additionally, the P7 is the first Smart Car with its own Alibaba In-Car Mini app, and pioneers an IFAA-standard Virtual Car Key. Not bad for a three-year young startup working on a Chinese schedule.
